The End of an Era

No more "bullies" on the beach.

Josephine "Jo" McCauley Ammons, 87, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2007. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 30 years, John McCauley; her second husband, Earl Ammons; and her daughter, Sandra Davis. She is survived by her son, John McCauley and his wife, Susan; four grandchildren, Tracey, Kimberly, Kristin and Lauren; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Eli, Tyler, Kayli and Abigail; and many numerous nieces and nephews. Her dedication to her family was the utmost important thing in her life. Visitation will be Friday, March 2 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where a service will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Washington Memorial Park.

Josephine was one of the most fun people to be around. I have many memories of her and Teenie, from riding around on the golf cart with White Russians in hand, to the dancing at the point, the salt herring breakfasts, the excitement they felt as the weekenders started to arrive. They were special people. They will be missed.

Wine Tasting

The First Annual Whipporwill Hills wine tasting has to go down as a sucess. Everyone seemed to have a really good time, and I hope, learned a little about different types of wine. Of the whites we tasted, I think the Vinho Verde and the Spatlese were probably the favorites. Of the reds, the clear winner was the Rock Rabbit.

Thanks to Andrea for organizing this somewhat un-organized event and for all the great cheeses. I had a blast, but boy did I have a wine head the next morning.

Subject: Merry Christmas and looking forward to New Years!

Hey Everyone.... I am busily getting ready to have lots of family and friends to my house on Monday to celebrate another Christmas. I just wanted everyone to know how much I love each of you all in a very special way. I am so blessed to have so many great friends to always be there when you need them... in happy times and sad times, obnoxious times and quiet times, sober times and very drunk times... and extremely hungover times. Any way I am looking forward to New Years weekend so I can really let loose. It has been a very hectic, busy week. Benny forgive me for not using your lakepeople blogsite for this but I wasn't sure everyone would get it. I would like to do a wine tasting next Saturday at the Lake if any one is interested. Benny and I talked about it at Vicki's the other nite and we decided who ever would like to participate should bring 2 of the same kind of wine, One being a cheap version the other a bit more expensive. I am avidly looking for the Wine tasting for Dummies book for a little guidance otherwise we will use Benny's which has something to do with trailer park wine tasting....HHHMMM I'm not sure which one would be more helpful. If you would like to participate e-mail me and let me know what kind of wine you would like to bring so we wont have to many of the same flavors...I think Bill may even participate in this one! I am looking forward to it and hope everyone has a VERY SAFE AND MERRY CHRISTMAS. For Aspiring Authors

Looks like Dave has figured the posting thing out. Here are some tips:

There are two modes for posting, HTML and Compose. Compose is the one that most people use. It is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor. HTML is an advanced mode that has more flexibility, but you have to know the Hyper-Text Markup Language. Compose mode contains a toolbar that has many word processing type functions (font, size, bold, italic, text color, links, justification, ordered and unordered lists, quotations, spell check, insert image and a remove formatting button). As far as I know, that are no limits to the length of a post, when you get to the bottom of the text box, just keep typing and the editor will add a scroll bar on the right side. Not all functions work in all browsers. I suggest doing your posting in Firefox. You do not have to give up your browser of choice to do this. Just download Firefox, connect to the internet in your normal manner, then open Firefox and log in to lakepeople.blogspot.com. Blogger even recommends Firefox in their help files:

"AOL users, as well as those unaccounted for here (Netscape, Opera, etc.), would be wise to use Mozilla Firefox in order to have the best possible experience using Blogger."

Putting photos in your post is a little tricky. Even though Blogger tries to re-size the photos as it uploads them, I have found that it is better to re-size the photos yourself using a photo editor. I like Picasa, it's free and does a decent job. Eventually, any photo you have in Picasa will have a one-button "publish to blog" feature. When you do publish a photo, there is a check box for how to wrap text to your photo. The published photo will always show up in the top of the page, not where you would like it based on where your cursor was when you inserted the photo. Not to worry, just grab the photo and drag it (hold down the left mouse button) to where you wanted and drop.

It is a good idea to save your post as a draft periodically while you are composing your post. This keeps from having to re-type everything if you lose it. I got into the habit of saving a draft after each paragraph after losing several posts on other blogs. Don't be afraid to use the Help files, they are chock full of good info if you run into trouble, but you will want to save your post as a draft before navigating away from the post editor (a good way to lose a post, believe me). Another good way to seek help while posting in Firefox is to right-click on the help button and select "Open in new tab". Firefox allows tabbed browsing, which lets you quickly switch between your post and the Help files while having both open simultaneously.

Putting a link in your post is very easy. Just highlight the text where you want the link to appear, click the link button in the toolbar, and a pop-up window will open where you can type or paste the URL of the page you would like to link to.

The Test of Dave's Ravings

Thank's for the help Benny. I hope this works. I'm still working on the format for my little slice of life of a person that has to deal with owners that live in an Association. Since this is just a test I'll only bring up one situation that had some laughing and some kinda mad that occured this week.

Ms. Tam, a lady of obvious asian decent, and elderly, started calling our customer service number around 11 am Tuesday. Her complaint- her neighbor's dog barks all day and she wanted a letter sent. Cust. Serv. asked me what to tell her and I told them to tell her call the county. The Association doesn't have a rule against dog barking.

11:15 Ms. Tam calls back to Cust. Serv. - the dog has now been urinating in her yard over a year and she wasnts to talk to the manager. I was not at my desk at the time but Cust Serv told her I would call her back.

11:25 Ms Tam called Cust Serv. - The manager has not called her back. Tiffany in CS is getting short with her, but I am in my office and she asks if she can transfer the call. I say sure. I talk to Ms. Tam about the barking and the urinating on her lawn. She talks for 10 mins on how it's so bad and so smelly, and the neighbors are bad people and she thinks they walk their dog on her yard on purpose. She say's the dog isn't on a leash ( I didn't question her how they guided the dog to her yard, but oh well). I told Ms Tam that this isn't an Association problem and she should just talk to them, but I would write a letter asking the neighbor's to be considerate.
